 Match Summary

Ashfield FC Vs Woodhouse Colts Blue

7th March 2010

kick off  12:30pm

Sutton 3G Centre

A six pointer today for the winning side as the kick start league tried to catch up with the missing games. The last time these two teams met ended in draw. A chance for Woodhouse to extend there position in the table or an opportunity for Ashfield to leapfrog Woodhouse in the league standings. It was all set for a cracking game.

The game underway and Ashfield set off to a flying start with Owen D pushing the ball just wide of the post. George however did find the net just 30 seconds later with a jinxing run and shot which blasted past the keeper. The pressure now on for woodhouse at an early stage, Ashfield pushed forward to create a number of chances. George, Sam, Josh and Owen D all unable to add to the opening goal. Woodhouse were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position half way through the first half. The resulting shot however didn't cause Jordan any trouble and the shot flew over the bar. It was a warning signal however, and the game swung towards Woodhouse, half way through the first half. Woodhouse had a couple of chances which the were unable to equalise on in a good spell of possession. Two minutes to half time however, cleaver play from Woodhouse saw the ball whipped into the box. Jordan unable to clear and the ball poked home for the equaliser. The half time whistle blew and both teams re-grouped for the team talks.

The second half continued with both teams battling for the ball. A great save from Jordan denied Woodhouse a second goal. Owen D once again found himself free but his shot was just wide of the post. Josh had a shot blocked and was unlucky not to find the net. The game now was swinging back to Ashfield's favour and George added his second goal with another blast on target. With the keeper unable to get anywhere near it. The score was now 2-1 to Ashfield.  Owen H was unlucky not make it 3-1 with a great run from the halfway line, a block from the defender prevented the ball from finding then net after it was dribbled round the keeper. Owen D did manage to find the net however to make the score 3-1. A great shot after he latched onto the loose ball in the box.  The game seemed to be pretty much wrapped up for Ashfield, but a last minute push from Woodhouse gave them a second goal to make it a very nervous few minutes to full time. However, Ashfield held them off to make it a great 3-2 victory.
